Marco Barel: “Key ingredient behind a great intuition is cooperation on exciting projects”

Venezia, August 20, 2015.

GBR is a venetian digital agency specialized in generating interest and leads, working in the field of visual arts and new medias offering to Businesses a high quality service. Its CEO Marco Barel has talked with TIA about his different ways of getting inspiration, his ambitions, his future perspective and the evolution of websites.

What do you do for inspiration? Marco-Barel-GBR

As the art director of every project performed in GBR Design, inspiration on design and interfaces comes essentially from permeating client’s environment and his own inner aims. We let client talk as much as he wants in order to retrieve from him as much information as we can get. This is really the key step in each successful photo shooting, video, paper or web project. There is not much to say about that, except that you have to listen at the client and permeate his own reality and objectives. The rest is mainly a technical task concerning arts, techniques and communication.

Looking 5 years in to the future, how far can websites go?

The Internet of Things together with the videos will begin to take over usability needs that so far are applied only to computers and mobile devices. We will have more bandwidth to make information widely available. As many other projects on this world, this is not really needed but it will happen. It is up to people to use it the better way to actually improve life and relationships.

Which countries excites you the most in terms of innovation?

So far we met many great technicians and designers from different areas in the world. You cannot image where the new generation of innovation will born, you just have to stay tune and, most important, keep searching for human resources and awesome ideas. Key ingredient behind a great intuition is cooperation on exciting projects!

Please list 3 of your favourite sites.

At the moment I like the concept and navigation of website and I also like the way website scales responsively. GBR Design website is still my favourite and recently we added a few more international languages on the top menu. I think videos in websites are really cool.

What did your very first site look like? Is it still online?

Well my very first website was a Flash one and unfortunately it is not online anymore. Flash user interaction was of course endearing but I never really loved its structure. However I have a very aged website that I’ve done when I was a novice. It is still online at and I still like a few design aspects in it… Please no comment!!
