Based in Mexico City, Masclicks is a fully-based digital agency with a deep knowledge of the Latin American market. The agency provides a wide array of services in English and Spanish, ranging from digital strategy for marketing campaigns to web and app development, among others.
Service attitude, no complications, right on time and full availability of an experienced team are some of the basic features of the agency, headed by its CEO Luis Badillo. In an interview with TIA, Badillo reviews agency’s work structure and its team highlights, giving an insight on the process of developing and motivating talent.
What important things or experiences have brought you to where you are today?
More than experience, I believe passion is a great way to achieve success in every team. That’s why in Masclicks we encourage passion for our daily job and for our hobbies.
In my case I love my work because it is a great opportunity to develop economy connecting brands with real people. As CEO one of my duties is to encourage each person to give their best.
Do you focus more on problem-solving or opportunity creation?
The best-case scenario for any agency is develop the client’s business, offering new opportunities for them based in data and strong experience. But in the daily basis it is kind of difficult to avoid a reactive attitude because of the urgent client’s requests.
What is your approach to motivating and developing talent?
We have monthly one-to-one meetings with our team and their Managers, where we review performances but most importantly there is space to discuss about personal issues or challenges.
The results are amazing because it is a real and authentic connection for every single Masclickero (coworker). This is a great opportunity to connect with them and create an agenda to encourage personal development and confidence.
What are some of the characteristics of people that have been successful at your company?
Passion really matters because if you love your daily job you are going to encourage other people to do their best. For example, we had hired some interns and after a few years they became key players and in some cases partners at our company because of their commitment, leadership and passion to deliver always the best.
How do you help a new employee understand the culture of your organization?
We have an introduction keynote to explain some rules but most important to show them our mission and vision for next five years. We also have ten core values for our company. They are real values that every single employee in our company needs to understand and apply in their job. For example, some values are to love our work and that our team is our family.
What upcoming initiatives at your agency do you find particularly exciting?
We did a full restructure in past months in order to create a horizontal and multi-disciplinary structure with a focus on strategy, creativity and technology. We are now looking for new clients with this new structure but with the regular promise of creativity with results.
What keeps you up at night?
Netflix movies or series. I don’t have big issues that keep me up late. Our main worry is to find right people for our open positions, but I understand very well that it is difficult to find a match.
What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
Please don’t lie, say always the true and don’t try to look like a different person because at the end you are going to deal with real challenges and work with us. If we are looking for somebody, that means that we are planning to add somebody to our family and that matters.
