“There is no need to be physically present to have a successful working process”

Tel Aviv, September 18th, 2019

Tel Aviv-based agency Wisy LTD, has a team of twenty in-house employees and a full-time customer services desk in India.

Wisy, has five divisions: Web Development (including design and UI/UX), SEO, Advertising, Social Media & CRO. The Israeli company offers end-to-end online marketing for medium and large companies.

Amit Shemla, Wisy’s CEO, said that the company’s goal is “to bring more sales to our customers, from the online channel.”

Before working for Wisy, Amit worked as a personal security guard, which he confesses was a high-stress job.

“While working as a bodyguard, and trying to set some time aside just for me (as there are no weekends or holidays off on that line of work), I decided to take a course in SEO.” He recalls and adds, “Ido Sela, the founder of Wisy, was my lecturer.”

Amit admired Ido. He liked the way he presented his material and the topics he spoke about. This was when Amit realised he wanted to remain connected to Ido.

I approached Ido and asked him to join Wisy as a junior without experience. Ido refused, saying there was no possibility of hiring without experience because the training is too difficult and very long, but I insisted. I insisted. I sent email after email after email…until Ido gave in. I began with a much less than half-time position while continuing to work as a security guard, and as soon as I was able, I started working full time at Wisy. Never give up.

Amit has been at Wisy for six years now and has truly worked his way up to become its CEO. We interview him to find out more about his role at the company and the agency’ secrets.

Where did the name Wisy come from?

Wisy is a play on Wise. Rounded off with a Y at the end, and it’s pronounced line Nike, Spikey etc.

How can a company like Wisy maintain a team feeling?

In today’s world, there is no need to be physically present to have a successful working process.

We work closely on daily tasks thanks to great tools like Skype, Asana, Slack and more. We work according to the Agile methodology, which means that daily synchronisation is essential for us. We do a Skype-Up every morning (a 5 min Skype call) to go over the existing tasks and to prioritise them in real-time with the team.

How do you help a new employee understand the culture of your organisation?

We don’t have a systematic training program like large corporations. Wisy is a boutique agency, and this allows us to offer personalised attention to each of our employees.

We throw them into the deep end to do some hands-on learning. Thanks to the environment that we have created, with the support of the team, plus weekly marketing sessions, and one-on-one meetings, they stay happy and afloat.

They learn a crazy amount and very quickly gain experience and the confidence to work independently.

How do you foster effective teamwork?

The core value of Wisy is teamwork. We see ourselves like a Formula 1 team – we are a group of professionals working in perfect synchronisation to one goal.

I believe that what makes our teamwork effective is a combination of the right methodology, working smart, and the best tools – all contributing to the symphony of efficient and productive work.

Not less important is time set aside for personal growth, activities, and fun. I encourage our team to do sport, to spend time with the people they love so that when they are at work, they can give 100%.

What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?

Be patient. Treat your employees the way you want your boss to treat you. Highly recommended tip – Watch all Simon Sinek videos.

Leadership is not about intensity or consistency. Leadership is about intensity AND consistency.

Do you have a particular methodology that you like to use to help others achieve their goals?

Yes, we have methodology and checklists for every topic – start from time management to client communications, SEO Checklists, PPC checklists, and so on.

Name three important things or experiences that have brought you to where you are today?

1 – Having the best teacher/ mentor – Ido.
2 – The love for the work I do, the clients and increased traffic on our sites.
3- The knowledge that I need a lot of practice and patience to build my experience.

Over the years, I have spent many hours reading and listening to instructors from all over the world. I have also worked on hundreds of campaigns and websites from all kinds of fields.

Thanks Amit!
